Woman Charged For Illegally Being In Possession Of Ammunition

 Defence cites her cooperation and lack of employment in plea for leniency

Wanda Wanjiru Okisai appeared before a Nairobi court on Wednesday, facing allegations of possessing ammunition without a firearm certificate. 

Okisai who is accused of being in possession of one (1) round of 9x19mm ammunition, contrary to Section 4(2)(a) read with Section 3(a) of the Firearms Act, Cap 114 please not guilty to the charges read before her.

The accused is currently in custody after the incident reportedly occurred on 30th October 2025 at Hazina Trade Centre in Nairobi CBD.

During the hearing before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina of the Milimani magistrate court,Okisai's defence counsel applied for reasonable cash bail and bond terms emphasizing that this was Okisai’s first appearance in court. 

It was noted that she was arrested on 30th October 2025 and had previously been released on police bond, which she honored.

The counsel further told the court that Okisai has cooperated fully with the investigating officer and that she had always availed herself when summoned. 

He further added that the accused was not considered a flight risk, having recently completed university studies and not yet secured gainful employment.

"Your honour,this is my client's first time in court,she has never commited any crime, she has also not secured work gainful employment since she finished her University education,we therefore ask the court to be lenient on giving out bail terms,"defence counsel stated.

The defence urged the court to exercise leniency, pointing out that the charge relates to possession of a single round of ammunition with no evidence of unlawful use. 

Magistrate Onyina ordered for a pre-bail report that will guide the court on whether she will be released.
