There are moments when a country expects its government to speak,not necessarily because the government has every answer, but because citizens need to know that those at the top are listening, concerned and willing to confront difficult questions. Yet as Kenyans raise concerns over alleged abductions, disappearances, political violence and what many describe as growing goonism, the President continues with his official engagements including Ambulances being handed over, government programmes being launched and guests continue to be invited at State House. The High Court has dismissed a petition by the Rastafari Society of Kenya (RSK) seeking to allow the religious use of cannabis, finding that the group failed to prove the drug is an essential practice of the Rastafari faith. Delivering the ruling on Wednesday at the Milimani High Court, Justice Bahati Mwamuye dismissed the amended petition filed by the Rastafari Society of Kenya and Wambua Mwendwa, alias Ras Prophet, against the Attorney General and the Kenya Law Reform Commission.  A court gravel. A Nairobi court ordered the continuation of a criminal case against a company director accused of stealing more than sh356 million from a company where he served in a senior management role. Milimani Chief Magistrate Rose Ndombi dismissed an application by the prosecution seeking to withdraw the case against Honey Khatwani, a director of Oki General Trading Limited, saying the grounds presented were insufficient to warrant the termination of proceedings. The case involving Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna will proceed before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) even as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) continues with its internal dispute resolution process. The tribunal, sitting in Nairobi, allowed the ODM Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) to continue handling the matter, but directed that its final outcome will be considered alongside the tribunal’s determination.
