DPP Opposes Bail for Five Suspects in Lawyer Kyallo Mbobu Murder Case
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has opposed the release on bail of five suspects charged with the murder of lawyer Matthew Kyallo Mbobu after they pleaded not guilty before the Kibera Law Courts.
The prosecution, led by Jalson Makori, opposed their release, citing new developments in the case, including the arrest of another suspect whose case the DPP intends to have consolidated with the ongoing proceedings.

The accused persons, Rose Mbithe together with her two children: Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa and also Police Constable Julius Kipkoech and Police Constable Kennedy Kipkemoi Borborot, appeared before Justice Diana Kavedza for plea-taking after their mental assessment reports were filed in court.
According to the charge sheet, the five are accused of murdering Matthew Kyallo Mbobu who was a lawyer.

"On September 29, 2025, at around 5:30 p.m. along Madi Road, near Brookhouse International School in Karen, within Lang’ata Sub-County, Nairobi, jointly with another not before this court murdered Matthew Kyallo Mbobu,"the charge sheet read.
The charge sheet alleges that they committed the offence jointly with another person who was not before the court.
Following the plea-taking, Kyatha Mbaluka, counsel for the first three accused persons, applied for their release on bail, arguing that they had been in custody since July.
However, Justice Kavedza directed the parties to file written submissions on the bail application, declining to hear oral arguments due to the court's workload.
The prosecution informed the court that another suspect, Inspector Kennedy Sang, who had been at large, was arrested over the weekend.
Makori told the court that the DPP intends to charge Sang in connection with the murder and have his case consolidated with that of the five accused persons.
Meanwhile, the defence opposed the prosecution's move to file a further affidavit in the bail proceedings.
The court is expected to consider the parties' written submissions before determining whether the five accused persons will be released on bail.
