The move comes amid a civil suit alleging corruption and economic crimes.
The suit, filed against Wamatangi and 13 other respondents, claims that between 2017 and 2022, while serving in the Senate, he unlawfully acquired over Sh. 700 million.
He is also accused of using his position as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Roads to influence tenders awarded by KeNHA, KURA, and KeRRA to companies linked to him.
Investigations indicate that although Wamatangi formally transferred directorships to family members, including his wife and siblings, he allegedly remained a signatory and beneficial owner of the accounts.
The EACC is seeking the recovery or forfeiture of Sh. 813,145,532.40, categorised as proceeds of corruption.
The court targeted accounts at Family Bank held by companies associated with the Governor. These include King Construction Company Limited, King Group Company Limited, King Realtors Limited, Quick Fix Auto Garage Limited, and Lub Plus Oil & Energy Company Limited.
On January 15, 2026, two related matters came before Hon. Benjamin Musyoki at Milimani Law Courts.
In Case E028 of 2025, filed against King Group Limited, the court dismissed a preservation application, noting that the relief sought was already covered in the main suit.
In Case E042 of 2025, filed against Wamatangi, the court granted an interim injunction. The orders prevent the respondents from withdrawing or transferring funds from the five accounts.
The injunction will remain in effect until February 4, 2026, when the matter will be further heard before Hon. Njuguna J.
The EACC argued that a prima facie case exists and warned of a “real danger” that the funds could be withdrawn or moved, undermining recovery efforts if the injunction is not maintained.
The case is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to fight corruption and recover public funds allegedly misappropriated by public officials.
