Man pleads guilty to stealing railway equipments in Nairobi
A Nairobi man, Josephat Kamau Chege, has pleaded guilty to stealing railway equipment valued at Sh 40,566 at Milimani Law Courts.
Chege who told the court that he took the metal because it was lying unused and that he did not know it was in use, expressed remorse and asked for forgiveness before court.
"Hizi chuma zilikuwa Mahali niliona tu kama vitu hata havitumiki Kwa hivyo nilichukua lakini nilichukua tu juu ya shida hivyo naomba msamaha mbele ya Koti juu ya shida nilikuwa nayo,"Chege said.
According to police reports, on January 4, 2026, Chege allegedly stole three radiator grills meant for locomotives at the Kenya Railways Workshop in Nairobi County.
The theft was foiled by security personnel from Hatari Security Company, who were guarding the area near Gate A and Bliss Medical Center.

While on a routine patrol, the security guards heard a commotion and approached the scene.
They observed the suspect carrying the stolen items wrapped in bedsheets. The guards quickly pursued and apprehended him on the spot.
Chege was then arrested the following day, January 5, 2026, and booked at Central Police Station.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts on January 6, 2026,he pleaded guilty to the charges under Section 268(1) as read with Section 275 of the Penal Code.
During the court proceedings, the stolen radiator grills were presented as exhibits, confirming the items had been recovered and were in police custody.

The prosecution requested that the exhibits be returned to the Kenya Railways Corporation, the complainant in the case.
“We are requesting that the recovered exhibits be returned to Kenya Railways Corporation, the rightful owner, as the matter proceeds to pre-sentencing,” said the prosecution
The court scheduled a pre-sentencing hearing for January 8, 2026, as a probation report is being prepared to inform the sentencing decision.
“The stolen items be returned to Kenya Railways and set a pre-sentencing hearing for January 8, 2025 pending the probation report,” said Chief Magistrate Dolphina Alego.
Chege will remain in custody pending probation report on the sentensing ruling.
