Kisumu city manager misses court again over KCSE forgery charges, cites illness
Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga has failed to appear before Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for the second time, citing illness as the reason for his absence.
Abala was scheduled to respond to allegations of forging a KCSE certificate on February 6, 2026, but did not attend. His lawyers informed the court that he was undergoing surgery at the time.
On Monday, March 2, 2026, appearing before Chief Magistrate Harrison Barasa, the defence requested an additional 30 days to allow the city manager to recover fully and appear in court.
“Your Honour, our client is still unwell. We request 30 more days for him to regain his health and be able to attend court,” said Abala’s lawyers.
Kisumu city manager Abala Wanga/photo/XMagistrate Barasa granted the request and directed that the case be mentioned again on April 7, 2026, for further instructions.
Court documents indicate that Abala is accused of fraudulently obtaining sh 8,701,091 from the Kisumu County Government between September 2020 and November 2024 while serving as City Manager.
He is also expected to face charges of forging and presenting a KCSE certificate (Serial No. 268532) to the Kisumu County Public Service Board to secure employment.
The defence told the court that they had requested a review of the charges by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) but have not yet received a response.
“We wrote to the DPP on November 26, 2025, seeking intervention to complete the file and make it ready for plea, but there has been no feedback so far,” lawyer Ogolla said.
