Sifuna ODM Dispute to Continue as PPDT Sets Conditions on Case
The case involving Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna will proceed before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) even as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) continues with its internal dispute resolution process.
The tribunal, sitting in Nairobi, allowed the ODM Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) to continue handling the matter, but directed that its final outcome will be considered alongside the tribunal’s determination.

The dispute, registered as PPDTC/E014/2026, pits Sifuna against Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.
In its ruling, the PPDT affirmed that it has jurisdiction to hear and determine the matter despite the ongoing internal party processes. The tribunal noted that the continuation of the ODM internal mechanism does not limit its authority to intervene and make a final determination where necessary.
ODM lawyers Ken Amondi and Sam Makori had argued that Sifuna’s application before the tribunal was premature. They told the tribunal that the party’s internal dispute resolution process was already underway and should be allowed to proceed without external interference.
They further urged the tribunal to respect ODM’s internal structures and allow the party to handle the matter through its established mechanisms before escalation to the tribunal.
The ruling was delivered by a panel comprising Hon. Jin Muzna Mohamed Yusuf, Gad Gathu Kiragu (presiding member), Stephen Musau, Theresa Chepkwony, and Abdirahman Adan Abdikadir.
The tribunal stated that the matter remains active and will proceed in parallel with the ODM internal process, with a final determination expected after the conclusion of the party’s internal mechanism.
